Superb Action!

Oh how I wish that we can do outrageous things in real life just like in the movies. As a certified movie buff, I am always in awe of films with high production values, spectacular stunts, as well as death-defying scenes.

I must say I was first impressed with “The Matrix." I like its fast-paced editing, and its coolness. Keanu Reeves helped a lot. He was really a stand out in shades. The slow motion scenes and the falling down scenes from a building seem to take forever, and it would seem they are eternally suspended in air, but who cares? Who says films had to be realistic and rational at all times?

Another one is “Swordfish.” I don’t like violence in real life but I have to give a thumbs up sign to the bombing scene. I am not familiar with the special effects that they use, but there seems to be a 360 degree turn of the camera, a slow motion, as well as close-up shots presenting the fine details of the scene. It was a sight to behold, only in the movies.

“Kill Bill” is also unique, because the film is not stereotypical. It has elements of surprise, and violence is presented in an artistic way. Just like how we would see it in a video game. An anime scene was also inserted and it blended well in the scope of the entire movie. The story telling is innovative too.

Next is “Wanted.” It was not heavily promoted in our country, but there was the Angelina Jolie Factor. I like it when a lady kicks ass. It’s time for some woman power. James McAvoy didn’t disappoint me at all. His role fits him to a T. I like the combination of his boyish charm, vulnerability, and his transformation from an ordinary clerk, to a skillful assassin is simply awesome! Yeah, the scenes were simply incredible and too hard to believe, but then again this is entertainment, so why should we complain?

Last but not the least, I would like to mention “District 9.” I didn’t have any idea of how the movie would be like at first. But I guess the movie poster made me curious. I thought it was like Resident Evil, aliens version.

Well, I must say that the first 30 minutes was kinda dragging and I have to get used to the documentary style of presenting the film. I was wondering how long it would last and I’ll never forgive myself if this turns out to be a bore. But after some time, I told myself not to have any misgivings and just take the film for what it is.

The scenes that looked like they were taken from broadcast news turns out to be scenes, that were actually made for the movie. If only for that, it got my seal of approval. It reflected the film's high production value, remarkable editing,as well as the film's intention of bringing a good story to the viewers. After some time, it finally dawned on me that the documentary style was just the introduction. Thank God!

After the film was able to establish its premise, now comes the blow by blow account of what’s to happen next. The suspense is building up. It's like deja vu. It's like watching Iron Man and Transformers. The film totally exceeded my expectations. The lead actor is not famous but he gave an incredible performance. He gave a very realistic portrayal of his role. Not bad for an actor who is relatively unknown.

So go and see the movie! The film has superb action and it will also touch your heart towards the end.

Borderline

When I think of the word borderline, I remember the first hit of Madonna. She was young then and I think she was the real epitome of a pop star before the emergence of Britney Spears. She had a style all her own. It was slutty but nevertheless cute."Borderline" has simple lyrics and melody but during the start of the MTV era, her video was one of the breakthrough videos. Adolescents would idolize her and copy her fashion.

But another definition of Borderline has something to do with personality disorders in Psychiatry.

We study this in school. In psychiatry, It says that:

DSM-IV defines ten categories of personality disorder. Of these, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is the most frequent in clinical practice. BPD is also one of the most difficult and troubling problems in all of psychiatry.
But I have to admit I never understood it before until I was able to see a prime example in real life. Believe me, I think it's really difficult to deal with someone with this kind of disorder, especially if a love one or someone close to you is afflicted with it. To give you an idea of some of the characteristics of this disorder. Here are some characteristics:

They have consistent patterns of instability in their relationships.

They commonly complain of depression and boredom.

They have very little control over their impulses.

They have a fragile and unstable self-image and affect.

They exert a lot of energy avoiding abandonment, whether real or imaginary.

Their relationships tend to be intense and short-lived.

They alternately idealize and devalue others, particularly their mates.

They make excessive emotional demands in close relationships.

They have difficulty tolerating ambivalence.

They always seem to be in a state of crisis.

Their behavior is highly unpredictable.

They place people in polar extremes, either all good or all bad.

Treatment

It is no secret that this particular client group can be something of a nightmare when it comes to finding effective therapeutic interventions. The treatment of BPD is fraught with difficulty, particularly in an in-patient setting where many borderline behaviors result in discord among the staff or where the demands made upon an individual nurse can become extremely unrealistic.

Treatment of BPD falls into two main categories - pharmacology, incorporating a range of medication options and psychotherapeutic techniques ranging from supportive counseling to psychoanalysis. Although many of the treatments available fall firmly outside the remit of the RMN it does no harm for nurses to understand the options available.

Pharmacological treatments include:

SSRIs to combat the deficiencies in serotonin absorption.

Neuroleptics to treat psychotic symptoms as well as dysphoria .

Carbamazepine has been used in the treatment of behavioral and affective problems.

Psychotherapeutic approaches to Borderline Personality Disorder are dogged with the same problems of compliance as pharmacological approaches are. This is in no small measure due to the difficulty Borderline patients have in forming the stable relationships generally seen as a pre-requisite for therapy.

Anyway, this blog is by no means trying to stigmatize personality disorders. It is caused by a lot of factors and anybody could be afflicted with it. Here is a diagram to help us understand the causes of psychological disorders.
Photobucket

But I believe that people afflicted with it should be compliant in their treatment, in order to manage their illness. A strong support group also helps.

Just Don't Think About It

There are some things in life that's hard to fathom that's why every man must set limitations in his mind. There are things we need to accept as "ENOUGH" and thinking much about one thing can lead to obsessive thoughts. I wonder why great and talented people succumb to madness, or they have some form of psychological disorder. I think it's because they try to outdo themselves or try to do something impossible and they think they could find a breakthrough. I think it's part of the ballgame. Some intelligent people become eccentric and they sacrifice a lot for their work that can be useful to society in some cases. But I think great minds also have a certain limitation, and when they want to outdo themselves they have obsessive thoughts too. Anyway many things can be said about psychological disorders, since it is multi-factorial. Everyone can be afflicted with it, great minds or not and it originates from one thing, STRESS, so I suggest that people should learn to relax, and take some things in stride or else we will go crazy. On a second thought, isn't it good not to be too intelligent, coz there's a thin line between intelligence and madness? Then there's the emotional factor, experiences can affect us, but how do we deal with it? Well, why don't we just tell ourselves that we watch too many movies and being so dramatic about it won't win us a best actor award in real life? We should just learn to overcome it and move on. Move past our weaknesses, and just go through the normal cycles in life with a sense of optimism and fun.

Relaxing Songs

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

This playlist is again a mixture of old and not so old tunes. I particularly like the jazzed up version of "Got to be There" which is a Jackson 5 original and I also like 90's music, where the modern RnB era started. TLC's songs are very funky and cool, as well as SWV. I like their take on "Human Nature" which is another MJ song. Anyway, these are relaxing songs according to me. Free from stress, calm and soothing. I think I ran out of synonyms, hahaha...it is what it is, RELAXING!

All About Internet Use

Here are articles I found on the net. It is about the ups and downs of internet use. Yeah, we all know that it's educational and informative, entertaining and fun. But it could be therapeutic too as well as addictive. Read down below.

Internet use and stigmatized illness
from Center for Health Policy and Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA (2005)

Abstract

People with stigmatized illnesses often avoid seeking health care and education. The internet may be a useful health education and outreach tool for this group. This study examined patterns of internet use for health information among those with and without stigmatized illnesses. A national survey of internet users in the USA was conducted. Respondents who self-reported a stigmatized condition—defined as anxiety, depression, herpes, or urinary incontinence—were compared to respondents who reported having at least one other chronic illness, such as cancer, heart problems, diabetes, and back pain. The analytical sample consisted of 7014 respondents. Cross-sectional associations between stigmatized illness and frequency of internet use for information about health care, use of the internet for communication about health, changes in health care utilization after internet use, and satisfaction with the internet were determined. After controlling for a number of potential confounders, those with stigmatized illnesses were significantly more likely to have used the internet for health information, to have communicated with clinicians about their condition using the internet, and to have increased utilization of health care based on information found on the internet, than those with non-stigmatized conditions. Length of time spent online, frequency of internet use, satisfaction with health information found on the internet, and discussion of internet findings with health care providers did not significantly differ between the two groups. Results from this survey suggest that the internet may be a valuable health communication and education tool for populations who are affected by stigmatized illnesses.

Addiction to internet 'is an illness'

New evidence shows that heavy users suffer isolation, fatigue and withdrawal symptoms

* David Smith, technology correspondent

Tense? Angry? Can't get online? Internet addiction is now a serious public health issue that should be officially recognised as a clinical disorder, according to a leading psychiatrist.

Excessive gaming, viewing online pornography, emailing and text messaging have been identified as causes of a compulsive-impulsive disorder by Dr Jerald Block, author of an editorial for the respected American Journal of Psychiatry. Block argues that the disorder is now so common that it merits inclusion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the profession's primary resource to categorise and diagnose mental illnesses. He says internet addiction has four main components:

· Excessive use, often associated with a loss of sense of time or a neglect of basic drives;

· Withdrawal, including feelings of anger, tension and/or depression when the computer is inaccessible;

· The need for better computers, more software, or more hours of use;

· Negative repercussions, including arguments, lying, poor achievement, social isolation and fatigue.

A primary case study is South Korea, which has the greatest use of broadband in the world. Block points out that 10 people died from blood clots from remaining seated for long periods in internet cafes and another was murdered because of an online game. Their country now 'considers internet addiction one of its most serious public health issues'. The government estimates that around 210,000 South Korean children are affected and in need of treatment, of whom 80 per cent might need drugs targeting the brain and nearly a quarter could need to go to hospital. Since the average high school pupil there spends about 23 hours per week gaming, Block notes, another 1.2 million are believed to be at risk of addiction and require basic counselling. There has been alarm over a rising number of addicts dropping out of school or quitting their jobs to spend more time on computers. In China it has been reported that 13.7 per cent of adolescent internet users, about 10 million, could be considered addicts.

My All-Time Favorite Scary Movies With A Funny Scene

Photobucket
The Exorcist is one of the creepiest movies I have seen. Who could ever forget the head twisting scene and a 360 degree turn at that? Another is the crawling scene by the stairway that could put spiders to shame! But the funny part was when the possessed girl was sprinkled with holy water and she said, "It burns." It was funny without really trying to.
Photobucket
The Shining has a very good actor, Jack Nicholson. The way he acted in the movie was really creepy. It's a horror movie but his acting is very engaging too. He played it very well. He really looked disturbed in the movie. And that is the greatest special effect! The funny scene was towards the end. It really gave new meaning to the expression Poker-Faced.
Photobucket
This movie started like any other story about a couple excited to have a new baby. But there are amazing twists and turns that can make you glued to your seats! Any funny scenes? I can't really recall. Hmmm, I think the demon baby itself looks funny!
Photobucket
Well this Japanese horror film was really a hit, that's why they made a Hollywood version. But the original is still the best. Who could forget that "Well" and "The Video" and the name "Sadako"? The crawling scene was really horrific too! Times two! There was a time when I would even cover my television, even though it's off, coz it reminded me of the movie. Who knows what might appear there! hahaha!!! Any funny scene? Hmmm since I watched it several times, I think the way the ghost fidgets while she was walking reminded me of the "Thriller" video of Michael Jackson.
Photobucket
Well isn't this movie the best example of a creepy movie with a sense of humor? Well Freddy is really nasty but he could be funny too with his antics and weird behavior. The premise of the movie was really good. Freddy appears only in your dreams. But we humans can not survive without sleep, so it's inevitable to see him, at least in the movie. The different scenes in his twisted world are full of surprises. It would surely make your heart beat faster!

Whatta Movie!

When I first heard of this movie, "Drag Me To Hell" I thought this was nothing but another B-Movie. But then it's a Sam Raimi movie of The Evil Dead and Spiderman fame, so I thought I might give it a shot. Judging from the trailer it looked pretty interesting. Well I wasn't disappointed, coz the movie was really entertaining and hilarious, hahaha...Well it's supposed to be scary, but for most parts of the movie I was laughing. The story is not that amazing but there is a superb and silly twist in the end. Well, why should I spoil it for you? Why don't u go and see it? The movie has numerous jaw dropping scenes, and I'm talking about it literally. There are parts that look gross. Well, the movie was never meant to be taken seriously, just like The Evil Dead. I thought I was watching an episode of Tales from the Crypt. There are even better stories in that TV series. But when it comes to the production value, I think they did take the movie seriously. The special effects were good. Well, come to think of it. Even the title was kinda cheesy. And the only actor that has a name recall was Justin Long from Die Hard and Jeepers Creepers fame. Anyway, the lead actress has an angelic face, it's too bad she gets thrashed in the movie. If you want a hilarious moment, and have a feeling of some out of this world experience, then this movie is for you. You even ask yourself towards the end, was this really a scary or funny movie? But I don't regret having watched it, coz it's been so long since I had a good laugh!

You Are The Sunshine of My Life

*This is the song that I like at the moment. I think this is a very sweet song. It focuses on the positive aspects of love.

You are the sunshine of my life
Thats why Ill always be around,
You are the apple of my eye,
Forever youll stay in my heart

I feel like this is the beginning,
Though Ive loved you for a million years,
And if I thought our love was ending,
Id find myself drowning in my own tears.

You are the sunshine of my life,
Thats why Ill always stay around,
You are the apple of my eye,
Forever youll stay in my heart,

You must have known that I was lonely,
Because you came to my rescue,
And I know that this must be heaven,
How could so much love be inside of you?

You are the sunshine of my life, yeah,
Thats why Ill always stay around,
You are the apple of my eye,
Forever youll stay in my heart.

(background) love has joined us,
Love has joined us,
Lets think sweet love.

This Thing Called Love

Love can make people do extraordinary things….

Love can also make people do crazy things….

There is love that is worth fighting for….

There is also the love that you have to let go…

Sometimes love is not the answer….

And every question does not need an answer…

Be grateful for every moment, fleeting it may be…

It’s enough to make a difference in each other’s lives…

That’s the way things should be…

Remember each other with a smile…

Let time stand still…

Capture the moment., like a perfect photograph…

Like a beautiful flower that doesn’t wither or die…

Letting Go

Letting go is such a painful experience. We might have invested a lot of time and effort to make a relationship work, but things don't always work out, then we realize that the only thing constant in this world is change. But we have to move on and accept that things have come to an end. And endings are usually new beginnings. Here is a poem I wrote about this subject.

This Is The End

I was all set to make you just a part of my history.

To put an end to this sad and crazy story.

I know that I really couldn’t be part if your life.

Whatever I do, I couldn’t really give it a fight.

I know that this is the end.

I’m not sure if I can still be a friend.

I always wanted to please you, and be near you.

All I want is you, and but I wish I could find someone new.

But once you give me a flicker of hope,I want more.

You made me believe this is a love that’s worth fighting for.

I know in my heart that I’m the one who loves you more,

I feel helpless, and I can’t fight it no more.

I know this is wrong.

It’s like a worn out song.

I love you, but the feeling is not the same.

You treat this whole thing as a game.

So, it has to stop.

Before I become a laughing stock.

You left me, and hurt me, but that’s alright.

Because I didn’t how to end it, and how to make things right.

Thank you for putting a stop to all this craziness.

For all your viciousness.

That’s the only way to forget you, by hurting me.

And by getting the best out of me..

Separation and the Desire to be Reunited

I just like the song of FM STATIC, "TONIGHT." People usually write about Emo stuff, so why not some sweet stuff such as being reunited? This blog was inspired by this song.
I WISH WE NEVER HAD TO BE FAR AWAY FROM EACH OTHER.
I KNOW WE SAID WORDS THAT BROKE EACH OTHER'S HEARTS.
I WISH WE COULD UNDO THOSE THINGS, AND ERASE IT COMPLETELY.
Coz when I look back on the day when we first met,
I knew it was something SPECIAL and MAGICAL.
We’ve seen each other through the good times and bad times.
I hate to admit that I MISS YOU.
I do lots of things to keep myself busy.
It’s HARD for me to just stay at home and REMEMBER the times that we spent TOGETHER. And during those RARE MOMENTS that we meet, you still bring TEARS to my EYES.
TEARS of JOY and it brings back the HOPE that SOMEDAY we’ll be together ONCE MORE.

Welcome!

I have to confess I have so many personal websites, so is there a need for me to put up another one? I have to admit this site is user friendly. This is solely for blogging. It lacks the fanciness of other sites but that is what makes it unique. It is simple therefore, it is easy on the eye. This is another venue for me to share my thoughts and opinions.

The topics I usually write about? Well, it's about love, songs and movies. Those things interests me. I have decided to import some of my blogs from other sites here. But I would make sure that this site would be more simple without frills.
